The Year that was!

It is Finally payday so I can talk! Christmas is a time that does not play justice to my bank account, and so I am extremely happy that it's gone and Jan is here! The month atleast everyone heads to the gym! Yea..I understand, the kind of craze eating and drinking like it's your last day on earth. I wish that's how we spend our everyday lives, like its the last, because believe me this would be the best world ever! Happy new year! and BRAVO to 2014 cos it's gone forever! Hoping you made lots of happy and beautiful memories because thats what 2014 is now! A memory!😊 The year that was, favored me and my partner! The goals we set at the beginning of the year are fulfilled and the memories are as many to last us a lifetime. I am glad we never tire to beautify life. I am very thankfull to have spent that year loved, encouraged, supported, lifted, offered a shoulder to lean on and a good curl,😻thanks to our lovely cats😼😽  The year that was, saddened me, in a lot of many w...

My dress my choice!.. Then what?

2 weeks and I am still a disturbed woman, after following up the news about #mydressmychoice Kenya, reading through social media and discussing with friends on the sad incidence of a young woman stripped naked for wearing a short skirt, I still have no understanding on how grown ass men, sorry! boys i meant, come up with group decision to strip a woman because their small stupid minds agree in unison that they are indecent. Dare one to raise a finger when he's alone and he could pee on himself. This story reminded me of what happened last few months in another town, last few years in another. It happens,  we then chant, walk, sing, protest and later calm down. Then? wait for a next time? I am sorry but my choice will have to be emphasized in a more serious manner! Where do I buy pepper spray? What am i allowed to carry in the streets of Kenya to protect myself from perverted idlers? How do i crush their balls? I was really thinking about the survivirors, none of us who have never go...

The age difference between my Africa and my Europe😄

I write this with utmost honesty. Our ribs have hurt everytime this discussion has come up and believe me it has come up for as many times and with lots of different people from both continents. If you have never sat and had this discussion in a way that you stripped your childhood times naked, let me tell you the funny bits about the age difference of my continents.. I remember when i would tell my European friends and classmates the stories of my life, and in their eyes, i could see this sadness or i put it as pity, or did they even believe me? they were polite enough to just nod than just tell me they don't get it because i narrated to them the stories their grandmothers narrated about their childhood. It was not until i started working, met and made friends with all kinds of agegroups that i realised i could well be 60 in Europe, storywise i mean. My 30 year old  European friends have no understanding of my childhood. My story was flowing swiftly and melodiously with the o...

What the summer '14 taught me:-)

Image
Wow! It's been a tiring lovely summer! But guess what this summer has taught me! Am not lazy! 💃💃I thought and actually am very hardworking person when it comes to making money.. Last summer though, worked like a donkey to not make money but save it, and  we are enjoying every bit of the satisfaction!  What I learnt; i can paint! Yea, can build cupboards  And the best part of it! I can bring down walls... Be carefull I might as well bring you down.. Ha! :)

The Big Move:

Image
January 2014,while holidaying with my fabulous partner, somewhere in the Canary Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa, my partner And i really decided on getting serious with buying a home. We had thought about it sometime last year but it took sometime to actually gather the courage to apply for mortgage, go out and see houses on sale and actually choose one. See, we were town girls, and were both brought up in small towns but as soon as age and freedom kicked in, we had disappeared and have lived in the city till we started missing the luxury out of city. We missed driving in our own compound, enjoying a drink in our own garden, and barbecue as the sun set in the late summer evenings. In the city, We lived in a great place near the sea and had access to great cosy hang outs but after doing it all, we craved some change, they say change is good and believe them, it is good! After seeing some homes in the big cities, we had to set our priorities right. We did not want t...

Most popular questions Finns ask foreigners!

Image
I am in the process of getting my lovely partner to get me a t-shirt engraved with all answers to these questions that i tire to answer. I have put together these questions because its not been fun to answer them everyday of my life, sometimes, when someone looks at me like they want to say something, i almost reflexly start singing where i was born and what i am doing here😂 Where do you come from? When i first came here i proudly answered this question, over the years i feel very associated with Finland that i simply want to just say the city i live in! The shocked eyes back when i simply answer Helsinki!😳. It will be simple from now on: Helsinki, Kenia! That will confuse you enough and save me from the other questions on the list!, unless ofcourse you are old and sincerely buffled by this beautiful human creature that found way into your land😃 How did you come here? Now this is one question out of curiosity, i have not figured out yet the right answer but i try, i am Kenyan born, ...

Abortion Vs Law/beliefs!

Image
The other day i watched a documentary on teen pregnancy and the tight rules on abortion in Argentina. Abortion is illegal in Argentina like in many other countries and especially 3rd world countries. The strong influence of the Catholic Church and other religious and social beliefs affiliate to the ban of abortion. I do think we are now in a world where many things don't happen as they did long time ago and as the world changes, wheather we like it or not, we just have to change too or/and adjust some things along the way, because fight it or not, times will not move backwards or remain the same! The world is moving on faster than time and we ought to smarten things up. The funny thing (its not even funny) about watching that documentary is to see how freely sex is seen and expresssed in that country!🙈 the parks were full of young couples rolling on the grass and kissing each other, the streets full of couples kissing and caressing each other like they are in the privacy of their ...

Summer Fever!

Image
You can tell i have been lazy to write or have been busy enjoying my crazy summer. Its almost mid-summer and we are yet to have consistent summer weeks without the interferance of Mr rain. We are ofcourse very thankfull for the real sunny days we got! I, for one have enjoyed them to the max since i am not one who waits to live another day.  One of the biggest summer problems is spending vs savings. Summer brings alot of feel free, feel good and a little kind of dont care attitude, if you know what i mean. We pass by the shops And they are all screaming Sales! You want to meet your friends and you always end up in the terrace having a glass or two, you sit for cake and coffee, you go picnics And everything involves spending! Spend wisely but dont miss out on the summer fun! Looking from my spendings last summer, i have come up with some lovely ways to spend less, so yes, you are welcome to borrow a thought. First, stop drinking😂, did you just laugh, or who i am kidding😂😂😂😂. Tha...

The limit of you is you!

Image
During those moments when you can't sleep and just stare at the ceiling, what runs through your mind?. Of late, a lot has been on my mind and i have used that time to plan the big things i have coming this summer!. This particular morning though i thought about where i am in life and looking back, i was suprised at how far one can go! For sure, we are the only limits to ourselves!. I thought about me, the little girl, when I was 5 or so and was leaving with my grandmother( bless her wonderful heart). There was a lot to do in the village, run around the grounds with other children, jump over our grandfather's neatly done and sprunge them, peep your uncles cages curious of what they doing in there, climb trees with the boys and eat guava while sitting on a branch😋, and most of all we watched and trapped birds, and watched the aero planes fly! Yea i was quite a tomboy then! One time i was sitted outside bored to death, the sun was high and hot and i was just sitting on th...

The little things that matter! Spring'y spring!

Image
It' s spring! Huraay... Well maybe i should take it slow since Finland is known for taking us back and Forth, spring/ winter! But you see, am one of those people who were out with lighter clothes the 1st moment that ray of sunshine struck through the window, since then i have closed my eyes to the snow that has fallen and thickened my skin to the cold! Thank goodness it is now officially spring!.  I  tell you its officially spring because i spent a whole day outside without rushing in or jumping up and down to keep warm, i went jogging through the graveyard at 9 am on a saturday( its peaceful there and just ran through to let them know it's spring time), spent time doing shopping, eating out and walking all over with my partner! It was a beautiful day yesterday and that's the kind of difference spring brings to life. That's how we start our spring! Not your style? No worries, we celebrate you so long as you recognize it's spring. Even if you lie in the sun naked!, f...

My rules for Growth.

Image
“The only way that we can live, is if we grow. The only way that we can grow is if we change. The only way that we can change is if we learn. The only way we can learn is if we are exposed. And the only way that we can become exposed is if we throw ourselves out into the open. Do it. Throw yourself.”  ―  C. JoyBell C. “Just because I liked something at one point in time doesn’t mean I’ll always like it, or that I have to go on liking it at all points in time as an unthinking act of loyalty to who I am as a person, based solely on who I was as a person. To be loyal to myself is to allow myself to grow and change, and challenge who I am and what I think. The only thing I am for sure is unsure, and this means I’m growing, and not stagnant or shrinking.”  ―  Jarod Kintz , Growth comes in different ways. Life should bring growth and growth brings change, when we talk about how people have changed, i realize and know am one of them. My change has been brought by my d...

Whats with Mondays?

Image
I am sitting on the couch thinking whats with Mondays! Even when i had a free Monday from work, i couldn't shake that feeling, yea…that monday feeling that drags one around to laziness. If it was some years back, i would have spent all day on the couch either online or watching movies! But no, that kind of laziness i did leave behind some time back. Can you imagine i would just carry my blanket from Bed and to the couch and convince myself am having some ME time while i know i was just lazy! and not the lazy that some of you know, those who know me actually think am a hyper one and active, except my partner, she actually does know that side of me that lazies up! No, i have come to the conclusion that am not lazy, (consoles me haha)its just that she's much more active than i am. So..there you got it! all of you who think   am active, its only because you are lazier that me! so lets get off the couches!! I checked out the window to see clear beautiful skies and my Thermo read +...

Turning over the page! Turning 30 gracefully:)

Image
They say 30 is an age you go through a mini-crises. Single people, especially women panic over getting married, getting children, having their careers on track, starting to invest among other things. But just because they say, doesn't mean you said! I think at 30, the most important thing is to have a happy, collected and sound mind. To be honest 20's is merely a rollercoaster, up and down, forward, backwards and sideways. 20's being the age in a woman where we are allowed to do many things in life without lots of things tying us down. In our twenties, we are students and most of us working as well, it feels like more of hustling and rushing life. We party, try to be trendy, multitask and end up dramatic. I have to say my early twenties were all that and thank heavens for late twenties where we seriously start to plan our lives and get a little more serious. Our hearts stop for a moment when we think we are soon turning 30. The big 3-0 as they put it. I attended wedding...
