GOODBYE 2016
2016 is over, just the other i packed up my few belongings, moved from Saudi back to Finland as i awaited my new move to Abu Dhabi, UAE. It feels like yesterday but its been 7 months and the year is gone by the wind. That was faster than i expected, i cannot believe that these are the last moments of 2016, as i sit on our new white sofa, having a beer, from our humble apartment on the 18th floor overlooking Al reem island. The sun is shinning in the MIddle-east as the freeze brings on the snow and the most loved white christmas and new year feel in Europe.
This year, we have seen it all. It has been an wonderful and not so wonderful year, lovely and no so lovely, hateful, sad, happy, a rollercoaster by all means. We have watched the war in Syria escalate to the worst, we have watched thousands die, Kids confused with torn clothes full of blood, kids who don't cry anymore. We have watched hate on refugees as they ran from war and trying to seek safer places, we have watched a section of refugees do wrong to their host countries and spoiling it all for the genuine refugees. We have watched news in horror.
We watched hate crimes in the streets and towns in the UK after they left the EU to cross their boarders. We watched these hate crimes in America during the long campaigns of Donald and Hillary. We have watched tribal crashes in Africa, Extremists in the Middle-East and Asia. We have watched the hate towards LGBT all around the world. We have watched it all. It has been a tough year in the news, many times our faces have flushed up hot tears, anger, extreme distress. We have failed miserably in humanity. We have failed the children of today, children who know nothing about a peaceful world.
In the mist of all the terror, we have seen and felt love. There are people, groups, countries that have restored our faith in humanity. That give us hope for a better world. They have showed the world that love will always win because love heals. We have seen big smiles from distressed people just from receiving a hug, soup, a blanket, a toy. We have learnt that it is the little things in life that give the most significance. I am hopeful that many more simple gestures will bring Joy for 2017.
The other day i was having brunch with my partner and our friends, all dressed up having merry, enjoying sunshine. For a moment, i just looked up to the sky and thought, how lucky i am! How lucky are we, who get to live in peaceful places, who get to enjoy our lives, who get to see our children happy, who get to wake up in the morning, who get to live like we should live. It is not that we are better than anyone else. It felt like a lottery, where some win and some loose. Where everyone wants to win but not everyone can.
A friend of mine, who moved to Finland same time as me a few years ago, sent me a text reminding me of how far we have come, from the beginning of our journeys to where we are now. I thought intensely about it and got a little bit emotional because it has come with lots of hard work, lots of perseverance , lots of friends holding us together, lots of strangers being helpful and a lot of luck with the kind of people we have met in our lives. The people along the way, who stayed or left, depending on the changes and circumstances that life brought to us. I feel very thankful to everyone out there that opened up their arms and hearts, to the universe for being kind and to life for giving me and others a chance.
I hope the New Year brings us joy, brings more love, more compassion and more tolerance in the human race. That we can look at each other with acceptance and love. That we can all remember that none of us applied for a passport to come to this world. We all came, naked, without speaking any languages and without belonging to any religion! All this things have been taught to us and we all have a right to be here without judging each other.
May 2017 be a grand year, and bring more joyous moments for you my friends and family and all.
REMEMBER LOVE HEALS,
BE KIND TO ONE ANOTHER AND TO YOURSELF.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
