Life on a food diary:

I woke up one morning to go to work after 7 weeks of holiday and was shocked that my jeans wouldn't zip. You see., when you go away from home, then come back and just chill  for 7 weeks, you award yourself, you feel you deserve to eat as much, you bake, have a beer here and there, a glass of wine maybe. Its a treat to self, thats what you convince yourself! I had time and also went to the gym and for long walks but the fact is i was eating way too much than i was burning.

Food diary is something I have heard of and judged people who were obsessed with it to being extreme! I still stand by my views on the obsession but after trying one myself, I can completely understand how people get mixed up in the maze.

My long life on food diary lasted 4 weeks. I know, you expected 10, sorry.4 Weeks of well calculated calories and 3,5kgs less.No struggle or gym death! Well, to be honest there was a little struggle at the beginning. It was all about the food! The best thing about food diary is that you can eat what you want but you learn on what gives most calories and start dropping them! I am proud to have quit processed sugar in the process! No more sugar in my tea!
Ps: the other Kgs just king of surprise you, even after you stop the food diary because you do change your eating habits!

You read blogs of people who have done it, you google up the best apps to use, you download a few then delete them , and you finally settle for one and set a start date! A very important date with yourself that for me came with some frustrations!

Wrong start, i ate at work, I looked down on my plate and started putting down in the app
#types..potato
App: small potato? Medium, large?
Me: #googles calories in potato!
Google: mashed potato, boiled potato, baked potato😁
Me: gets frustrated, gives up and plan the start date tomorrow. Hahaha

'You failed yourself today Liz', I couldnt sleep, got off bed, at11pm to put together my previous lunch and dinner! I got some digits that showed I ate within my calories limit! What a lie, but I took it because we humans see what we want to see! Because people like me can convince ourselves to feel better! You know it's not accurate but you smile and sweep it under the carpet! It's a dead ghost!

The point of the diary is that you count every calorie that goes down your oesophagus! With apps nowadays, all you need to do is scan your food, buy a kitchen weighing machine, and weigh each and everything because each and every of those things will be found in the app, with accurately calculated calories. So cook your food, eating out doesn't work!

Every day, you see how much calories are in different foods and you start to watch out! You watch out on the cakes because the tiny piece has hundreds of calories! You watch out on alcohol cos a glass of wine could be same calories as your lunch! You watch and start reducing the portions! You try lots of salads to try stay in line! Pinterest becomes your obsession! Healthy foods become your search drive! And you become a better cook! Nothing beats that.

The 1st day you exceed your intake, you feel so bad! Like you failed an exam! You balance it next day, or you go for a run and loose some calories! You get good in maths! You balance your calories like a pro! End of week you stand on the scale, the truth teller! First week! Oh lawd!! Nothing! Wth? You curse, decide this is it, clinge! You tell someone to shoot you silently in your head! You think of making something to make you feel better! You want to bake! Then you see a beep on your phone, you need to pin down your bfast, you get back on track! You get hopefull, you encourage yourself! Good Human! You get back on track! 2nd week weigh and the smile gets wider! Life is happening! You get some motivation! You become disciplined! You never look back!

If i had stayed home, i would have done it longer, but travels came about and i finished after 4 weeks, with a better shape, with all my jeans zipping up! I was delighted! When the jeans don't fit! Some are overjoyed for a chance to buy new ones, I promised myself I will buy clothes cos they are worn out, no buying the next size! No way! Check your food, exercise.. Own yourself back!

I used myfitnesspal app on this, it was easy to scan foods! There were blogs to read, guides on eating and exercising depending on your personal goal! Test your discipline, that's the hardest part! In the process, please don't be the friend who is invited to a friends and start asking them how many calories they put in the food! If you ask in my house! You will be lucky if you get to leave! It's extremely annoying! Try stay on the safer side! Reduce your portions!

Even though am done with the diary for now, i know a lot on how many calories are in foods, so I know how to choose my dinners and how to pay myself back at the gym! Don't miss out on the fun while living life on a food diary! We shall laugh at you! Good luck:-)

Home made pizza! Yep you can have pizza:-)

Ps: exercising to loose fat needs good guidance! Change of diet gets you losing weight faster than exercise! Combine both and your results will be amazing! Let me know how it goes! I will be sitting here having a beer..

    1. I ha have been off the wagon too for a few years! It was my first time on food diary, and once you see the excess calories we eat! It's shocking! Like a small bag of peanuts is 600 calories! Imagine! Then you learn to balance your daily intakes! It's easier when your partner agrees to do it with you
