Suomalaiset vs Kahvia! (Finnish people vs coffee)
Sorry, did you expect the blog to be in Finnish. Voi että! It would take one year cos my Finnish writting skills are as good as my arabic!
Imagine me writting a blog about coffee! bizzare! Never thought i would but of late i've been missing the smell of coffee in the mornings, i have come to accept that its divine! That smell! In my house! In our coffee rooms at work! It just brightens the day! And for many, that first sip could be good or bad news, ask me first hand cos a good cup of coffee determines my partners day and that affects mine as well, so as she sips her first sip! My heart is in my mouth, and when theres a smile in her face after that sip! I settle, and my heart drops back to place because Alas! we are gonna have a good day! Yes.. I see all of you wives, husbands, girlfriends , boyfriends and kids agreeing with me! High five to us who mitigate after seeing that smile... You know what i mean! Ha!
What is it about that smell? It intriges me, its like a drug! And it sure is because the withdrawal symptoms are messy! The moods could collapse a building. Just look at the way Finns take their coffee, in a queit mood! Holding the cup safely secured in both hands, exchanging stares with the black concentrated liquid in the cup! meditating and allowing the coffee into the veins! It is strong!
It must be the kind of feeling I get when I sip a beer after a long day. The Finns seem seriously mentally involved with the coffee! Finland is known to be among the countries with the highest numbers of coffee drinkers in the world, having average of 4-5 mugs a day! Yes mugs! And they roast their coffee, did some article just indicate that it's lightly roasted! I disagree! But what do I know about coffee, I spare the details for the Finnish bloggers.
My journey on mastering the art of consuming Finnish coffee drew a blank!
You see the coffee I was brought up on was instant! 2 tsp sugar, 2 tsp instant coffee, half a cup hot water half hot milk! that was the kahawa I had known in my mothers house when the bank accounts looked good! We would tell It was payday when house shopping included instant kahawa. So, when the waitress on Finnair smiled down at my innocent scared face on that flight to Finland a decade ago and asked, 'miss, tea or coffee? With or without milk?,'. ''Coffee,' I announced, suddenly feeling posh! Hahaha. It was served in a small cup, it looked good! Black I mean, even after a tot of milk! It smelled nice! But once it got tasted, it came out faster than it had come in! Eewww, it was conc! Couldn't even keep my tongue in my mouth!
Going to every Finnish home and being offered coffee has taught me new ways of having my coffee. It is disrespectful and bad manners to say no to coffee as a guest! Ask my mother why, maybe because she said so and I see her eyes looking at me and silently whispering... Drink the coffee.. Smile.. So a 1/4 cup of the roasted coffee, 1/4 milk, 1/2 hot water and some sugar! Thankyou.. Allow me to drink it this way for now! When I grow up, I want to be able to swallow it straight up without twitching my face! But please roast it! The smell makes my day!
Only one person has the skills to make my coffee! They say love knows no boundaries even with coffee! Excempt money! The rest of you.. Boil the water for me! I am a tea lover! Or better I wil add it to the coffee you just made! Thanks for understanding! One day I wil beat you at this game.
