The Year that was!

It is Finally payday so I can talk! Christmas is a time that does not play justice to my bank account, and so I am extremely happy that it's gone and Jan is here! The month atleast everyone heads to the gym! Yea..I understand, the kind of craze eating and drinking like it's your last day on earth. I wish that's how we spend our everyday lives, like its the last, because believe me this would be the best world ever! Happy new year! and BRAVO to 2014 cos it's gone forever! Hoping you made lots of happy and beautiful memories because thats what 2014 is now! A memory!๐Ÿ˜Š The year that was, favored me and my partner! The goals we set at the beginning of the year are fulfilled and the memories are as many to last us a lifetime. I am glad we never tire to beautify life. I am very thankfull to have spent that year loved, encouraged, supported, lifted, offered a shoulder to lean on and a good curl,๐Ÿ˜ปthanks to our lovely cats๐Ÿ˜ผ๐Ÿ˜ฝ  The year that was, saddened me, in a lot of many w...

My dress my choice!.. Then what?

2 weeks and I am still a disturbed woman, after following up the news about #mydressmychoice Kenya, reading through social media and discussing with friends on the sad incidence of a young woman stripped naked for wearing a short skirt, I still have no understanding on how grown ass men, sorry! boys i meant, come up with group decision to strip a woman because their small stupid minds agree in unison that they are indecent. Dare one to raise a finger when he's alone and he could pee on himself. This story reminded me of what happened last few months in another town, last few years in another. It happens,  we then chant, walk, sing, protest and later calm down. Then? wait for a next time? I am sorry but my choice will have to be emphasized in a more serious manner! Where do I buy pepper spray? What am i allowed to carry in the streets of Kenya to protect myself from perverted idlers? How do i crush their balls? I was really thinking about the survivirors, none of us who have never go...

The age difference between my Africa and my Europe๐Ÿ˜„

I write this with utmost honesty. Our ribs have hurt everytime this discussion has come up and believe me it has come up for as many times and with lots of different people from both continents. If you have never sat and had this discussion in a way that you stripped your childhood times naked, let me tell you the funny bits about the age difference of my continents.. I remember when i would tell my European friends and classmates the stories of my life, and in their eyes, i could see this sadness or i put it as pity, or did they even believe me? they were polite enough to just nod than just tell me they don't get it because i narrated to them the stories their grandmothers narrated about their childhood. It was not until i started working, met and made friends with all kinds of agegroups that i realised i could well be 60 in Europe, storywise i mean. My 30 year old  European friends have no understanding of my childhood. My story was flowing swiftly and melodiously with the o...

The Big Move:

Image
January 2014,while holidaying with my fabulous partner, somewhere in the Canary Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa, my partner And i really decided on getting serious with buying a home. We had thought about it sometime last year but it took sometime to actually gather the courage to apply for mortgage, go out and see houses on sale and actually choose one. See, we were town girls, and were both brought up in small towns but as soon as age and freedom kicked in, we had disappeared and have lived in the city till we started missing the luxury out of city. We missed driving in our own compound, enjoying a drink in our own garden, and barbecue as the sun set in the late summer evenings. In the city, We lived in a great place near the sea and had access to great cosy hang outs but after doing it all, we craved some change, they say change is good and believe them, it is good! After seeing some homes in the big cities, we had to set our priorities right. We did not want t...

Most popular questions Finns ask foreigners!

Image
I am in the process of getting my lovely partner to get me a t-shirt engraved with all answers to these questions that i tire to answer. I have put together these questions because its not been fun to answer them everyday of my life, sometimes, when someone looks at me like they want to say something, i almost reflexly start singing where i was born and what i am doing here๐Ÿ˜‚ Where do you come from? When i first came here i proudly answered this question, over the years i feel very associated with Finland that i simply want to just say the city i live in! The shocked eyes back when i simply answer Helsinki!๐Ÿ˜ณ. It will be simple from now on: Helsinki, Kenia! That will confuse you enough and save me from the other questions on the list!, unless ofcourse you are old and sincerely buffled by this beautiful human creature that found way into your land๐Ÿ˜ƒ How did you come here? Now this is one question out of curiosity, i have not figured out yet the right answer but i try, i am Kenyan born, ...

Abortion Vs Law/beliefs!

Image
The other day i watched a documentary on teen pregnancy and the tight rules on abortion in Argentina. Abortion is illegal in Argentina like in many other countries and especially 3rd world countries. The strong influence of the Catholic Church and other religious and social beliefs affiliate to the ban of abortion. I do think we are now in a world where many things don't happen as they did long time ago and as the world changes, wheather we like it or not, we just have to change too or/and adjust some things along the way, because fight it or not, times will not move backwards or remain the same! The world is moving on faster than time and we ought to smarten things up. The funny thing (its not even funny) about watching that documentary is to see how freely sex is seen and expresssed in that country!๐Ÿ™ˆ the parks were full of young couples rolling on the grass and kissing each other, the streets full of couples kissing and caressing each other like they are in the privacy of their ...
